Nature is shown as an theme early on in the rabbits journey to leave the warren. While they are on the run, they must cross a river to be assured that it is safe to rest. This is the first example of nature as an obstruction on their journey. They were able to cross the river but were skeptical because it is a difficult task. It was even harder because one of the rabbits had an injured paw but they managed to find a piece of wood for them to transport them across. If that wasn’t enough, it was night time making it harder to navigate their way across.
